The Scottish Wildcat Association set up a conservation project that has been trying to tackle the issues affecting wildcats in Scotland. This includes neutering feral cats in a bid to preserve the wildcat gene pool and world leading research into the genetics and lifestyle of wildcats. Scottish Terriers, among their many other unique attributes, have unfortunately been historically shown to be much more prone to certain types of cancers than other breeds. In particular, they are at a very high risk for bladder cancer, speaking comparatively to other terriers.
